Hello, everyone! I'm in my final year of the Bachelor of Applied Computer Science program at HOWEST. As part of our Professional Networking course, we were tasked with a PR activity. Together with my classmates Jari, Arthur, and Ward, we decided to return to our high school to inform IT Management students about the opportunities within the Applied Computer Science course and its specialization tracks.
Our day began with a nostalgic trip back to Oudenaarde, home to GO-Atheneum Oudenaarde. We all gathered in front of the school, eagerly awaiting the arrival of our HOWEST professor. Despite the excitement, there was a sense of uncertainty as we had no clear preparations or expectations for the day.
When our professor finally arrived, we felt a brief moment of relief. However, this comfort was quickly disrupted when he informed us that we would be providing insights and answering the students' questions. This task seemed daunting, especially since we were only in our second year at the time.
We first reconnected with our former teachers, particularly those who taught informatics courses. After some friendly conversations, the students began to fill the room, and our professor kicked off his presentation.
He started with an overview of HOWEST as an institution and then delved into the various specializations offered within the Applied Computer Science program. We stood by, ready to share our personal experiences and answer any questions that came our way.
Reflecting on this experience, here are a few key takeaways:
Preparation is Key: Before embarking on any task, it's crucial to inform yourself thoroughly. This preparation helps reduce stress and provides a clear understanding of what needs to be done.
Be Ready for Anything: Even with preparation, unexpected challenges can arise. Stay flexible and open to adapting on the fly.
Embrace the Experience: Opportunities to share your journey and knowledge are valuable. Embrace them as learning experiences and chances to grow both personally and professionally.
In conclusion, our trip back to high school was both a challenge and a rewarding experience. It reminded us of how far we've come and how much we've learned. We hope our insights inspired the next generation of IT Management students to consider a future in Applied Computer Science at HOWEST.
